The 2022 harvest moved at a noticeably faster pace than previous years, opening with a burst of high heat in early September before several rounds of rain arrived in mid-September. Once the rain passed, mild and stable weather allowed the remaining fruit to hang on the vine into October, giving winemakers the extra time needed to reach ideal ripeness. Winemakers dubbed 2022 a "two-part harvest," as they were forced to choose between picking early to beat the heat or holding out for phenolic ripeness — the key to producing full-bodied, complex wines. It was a challenging vintage, and not every vineyard performed at its peak, but the winemaking team's persistence ultimately struck the right balance between ripeness, structure, and harmony.
